ZFK and GEK K-series engine swap information

2011-2014 CR-Z

When choosing an engine and transmission combo for a K swap into the CR-Z here ar a few things to consider. The 2011-2014 CR-Z electronics are compatible with the 2006=2011 Civic Si. Only a few changes need to be made to the ECU A plug in the engine bay to work with the 06-11 Civic Si ECU so it ca run the engine. This means the easiest choices for the engine are the K20A (all variants), the K20Z, (all variants) and the K24A (all variants). You will need to use the correct timing chain side block bracket. The K24s will use the CR-V/Element block bracket and the K20s will use the RSX/Civic Si block bracket. Whether using the K20 or K24 you can also use the Hasport UKBB Universal Block Bracket. If you wish to use a Honda OE computer, the K24Z engines can be used with significant changes to the wiring of the cars you can use the 2012 Civci Si ECU, or by using KPower Industries Hybrid Timing Chain Cover with FWD mount spacers. The KPower Timing Cover is the easy button. The K24Z engine requires the use of the Hasport UKBB.

What transmission can be used?

The transmission choice combined with the engine choice determine which engine mount kit to buy. The rear mount bracket comes in 4 versions. ZFK1-20, ZFK1-24, ZFK2-20 (ZFK3-20) and ZFK2-24 (ZFK3_24). There is a height difference between the brackets that end with -20 and -24. The ZFK1-20 is for K20A/Z (all variants) and the ZFK1-24 are for K24A/Z (all variants). The K-series transmission you’ll need for both ZFK1 kits is from the RSX RSX or 03-11 Civic Si. By the way, if you plan to make big horsepower or drag race your car, I recommend using one of these transmissions. The ZFK2 and ZFK3 versions of the rear bracket will only work with certain K20 and K24 blocks. The engine that came in the US cars include the K20Z3, and K24A/Z (all variants except the CR-V K20A1). I do not have a complete list of the European and JDM K-series versions, so you will have to do your own research if using one of those. Using the rear bracket with other than the correct block will result in a broken block. Below is a photo of the correct type of block. It must have these mount holes.

2015 CR-Z and GE Fit

The GE Fit and 2015-2016 CR-Z have different ECU connectors and need to use the K24Z engine (except the 2007-2009 CR-V K24Z1). This is due to the different type of crank angle sensor. An earlier version K-series like the K20A/Z or K24A would require wiring modification to the ECU plug in the car or using a stand alone ECU. There may be some other K24Z variants that use the early style crank sensor, but I am referring to the K24Z engines that come in the 2008-2012 Accord, 2009-2013 TSX and 2012-2015 Civci Si in the US market. For K swapping the GE Fit and 2015-2016 CRZ the correct mount kit is the ZFK3-24 mount kit if using the transmission that came with the K24Z or you could use the 2003-2007 Accord 5-speed or 2004-2008 TSX 6-speed and the ZFK2-24 moon kit. You will need some additional parts though. The Hasport Universal K-series Block Bracket UKBB and the K24Z Idler bracket.
